“Sun Bear in Times Square – Social Distancing” is an 18 x 24 inch framed digital photograph archival print. It was created at the height of the pandemic in New York City in 2020 during the lockdown.
Times Square was completely empty and the Sun Bear sculpture is on a pedestal surrounded by billboards and architecture, in solitude.
The artwork was part of a group exhibition “71-21 Celebrate 50 Years of Women in the Arts Foundation” at Ceres Gallery, New York City, June 22 – August 17, 2021. http://wiaf.org (exhibition photos show 18 x 24 in. print at Ceres Gallery).
This artwork is now on view in “Photography and Sculpture” juried exhibition at Rowayton Arts Center, New Haven, CT August 1 - 29, 2021.
Symbolism: The Sun Bear has a magnificent "collar" marking on its front chest symbolic of the rising sun. This special design was inspired by Wildlife in SouthEast Asia, and is a highly endangered species.
